Movement Theory is the idea that movement is bigger than any one style, technique, or set of rules. It’s about understanding where movement comes from, how it changes, and what happens when you start looking beyond what you already know.
Every dancer develops a way of moving through the things they’ve learned, the things they’ve felt, and the things they’ve been curious enough to try. Movement can be soft or sharp, grounded or weightless, structured or completely unexpected. There isn’t one right way to experience it, and there doesn’t have to be one right way to dance.
At Slay Studios, we’re interested in what happens when you stop thinking of dance as a collection of separate styles and start seeing it as one constantly evolving conversation. Training gives you tools, but exploration teaches you what you can do with them. The goal isn’t to make you fit into a certain kind of dancer. It’s to help you become more aware, more adaptable, and more connected to the way you naturally move.
Learn the rules. Understand the movement. Then make something of your own.
Movement theory:
Dance doesn’t
have to live
in boxes
This is for you if…
This is for you if…
You’re anywhere in your dance journey.
Whether you’re taking your first class or have years of training behind you, there’s always room to grow, explore, and push your movement further.
You don’t want to stay in one box.
Contemporary, ballet, jazz, modern - steal the best from all of them.
You want to actually understand movement. Not just learn the steps.
Learn the why, how, and feeling behind them.
You want your dancing to feel like YOU.
Build confidence, develop your movement quality, and stop trying to dance like everyone else.
Originally from Kansas, Ellayziah (El-asia) began dancing at a young age through competitive dance, building a strong foundation in performance and a love for movement. Ballet became a major part of her training later on, and it completely changed the way she understood dance. Through ballet, she developed a deeper appreciation for technique, alignment, musicality, and the way a strong foundation can support almost any style of movement.
While contemporary remains a significant part of her artistic voice, Ellayziah’s approach to dance is intentionally versatile. She is fascinated by the way styles influence one another and believes that some of the most interesting movement happens when those boundaries start to blur. Her work draws from contemporary, jazz, ballet, and other movement influences to create a style that is both grounded in technique and open to individuality.
As a creator and educator, Ellayziah is passionate about making dance approachable for everyone; from experienced dancers looking to expand their movement vocabulary to complete beginners who simply want to learn how to dance. Her teaching focuses on developing strong foundations while encouraging dancers to build confidence, musicality, creativity, and a movement identity of their own.
Through her content and training, Ellayziah aims to show that becoming a better dancer isn't about fitting into one style. It's about understanding the foundations, exploring what influences you, and learning how to make movement your own.
